When an Alabama woman died in her sleep at the hands of her estranged husband, her family never asked for help from the church, a local newspaper reported.
The woman’s sister was also charged with murder.
The prosecutor, however, declined to charge the woman’s two sons, who allegedly did not make any calls to the church to let them know the woman was in danger.
The sister’s lawyers said they did not receive a call from church leaders about the woman in danger, CBS affiliate WKRG-TV reported.
A church spokesman said that the family never received a phone call from a pastor, and that church officials were not aware that the woman had died until after her funeral service.
The two sons were not arrested, the Associated Press reported.
WKRg reported that the mother was divorced and was seeking a divorce, but had given birth to twins, the AP reported.
She also has an older brother who also died.
